Open Graph (og:) tags control how your page appears when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Discord, and other platforms. They define the title, description, image, and URL shown in the preview card. Without them, platforms guess what to show - often poorly.
The
Title tag (in head, shown as search result headline), meta description (shown as snippet text), viewport tag (for mobile responsiveness), charset declaration, and Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image for social media sharing). The keywords meta tag is ignored by all major search engines.
150-160 characters is the sweet spot. Google typically displays the first 155-160 characters of a meta description before truncating with '...'. Include your primary keyword naturally, write compelling copy that makes people want to click, and ensure each page has a unique description.
Google stopped using meta keywords for ranking in 2009. Most modern search engines ignore them entirely. The field is included for completeness and niche use cases (some internal search engines still use them), but you can safely leave it blank.
